In the aftermath of the 2020 election, DCI was created to rebuild the center of the political spectrum. Initially focusing on bipartisan legislative efforts in Congress, DCI successfully pushed for the inclusion of a stock buybacks tax in the Build Back Better Plan. This policy eventually played a key role in the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.
